Modeling Prehistoric Sites on MSU’s Campus
My recent project for the Michigan State University Campus Archaeology Program consisted of creating a predictive model for the campus that would determine the likelihood of finding prehistoric archaeological activity. For historic activity there are a number of archival sources that give us a good understanding of what was occurring on campus. However, there is a lack of documentation or known information about what was occurring on campus prior to colonization. This GIS model uses proximity to water, level ground and edible vegetation in order to determine areas of archaeological sensitivity.
